Riley's Bridging Ceremony: Walking the Bridge
Can't really see much in this crummy video, but this is where Riley walked across the bridge at his bridging ceremony. I really need a decent camcorder...

Sleeping
Brody's sleeping right now, taking turns on mine and Melissa's shoulders. He's pretty bloody and cranky (when he's awake), but he's breathing well. He had a few ounces of PediaLyte, but the bottle was still uncomfortable on his mouth.Posted by Lee Clontz at 02:27 PM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Brody's back
Brody's back in the room with us now. He's a little bloody, but not as swollen as we expected. Melissa's holding him, and he's sound asleep. He has a trumpet -- a small funnel -- in his nose to keep the airway clear.Posted by Lee Clontz at 11:04 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
All done
Dr. Williams just came by and Brody's all done. The surgery went very well and Brody is in recovery and is waking up. We'll get to see him in 30-45 minutes.Posted by Lee Clontz at 09:52 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Status update...
Just got a call from surgery and everything's going fine. They said he should be done before too long.Posted by Lee Clontz at 09:31 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
He's off
This place is incredibly well-run. Dr. Williams came by for a check-in at 8:20. He's very calm and comforting. They took Brody a 8:30 sharp, so now we wait. Melissa saw a boy who'd had cleft palatte surgery last time we were here and the swelling was really significant, she said. Brody will probably look pretty rough when we see him again.Posted by Lee Clontz at 08:47 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Anesthesiologist just stopped by...
Way too much information, but very helpful. Brody may have some immediate breathing difficulty because of the changes to his anatomy. Ten more minutes...Posted by Lee Clontz at 08:20 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Looking good...
Brody's all checked in and we're now waiting for a visit from Dr. Williams. Daddy's prowling for caffeine.Posted by Lee Clontz at 07:41 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack

Doing well
Brody had a somewhat fitful night last night, but is having a good day today. I fed him with a syringe, as the bottle seemed to be making him uncomfortable, but he ate and had a couple of naps. He was smiling with Melissa and is showing signs of his old self.Posted by Lee Clontz at 04:11 PM | Comments (0) | TrackBack

Just fed Brody
Good news: Brody is off of his IV and is bottle-feeding. Hopefully he'll get to come home this afternoon if all continues to go well.Posted by Lee Clontz at 11:06 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack

All's well
Brody is sleeping through most of the day. He's showing a few signs of himself, though he still seems a little wary. There's a picture of him on my Flickr space. Just click the badge to the right and go to the most recent shot. That as a few hours ag nd he's looking better already.Posted by Lee Clontz at 03:23 PM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Nurse just called
She said she's rocking Brody and he's ding great. She told Melissa, "He's big!" which is no news to us. We'll see him in 20 minutes or so once the room is ready.Posted by Lee Clontz at 10:03 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Brody's done!
Brody's surgeon just came out and said things went very well. He's in recovery right now and we'll be able to see him in about an hour.Posted by Lee Clontz at 09:14 AM | TrackBack
ENT success
The ear tube procedure went well and is all done. He had fluid and inflammation, and has some antibiotic drops for the next week. Now the plastic surgeon can start working.Posted by Lee Clontz at 07:57 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Now we wait
Nurse just took Brody off to the operating room, so now we're just waiting in the parent lounge. This place seems amazingly well-run -- everything right on time.Posted by Lee Clontz at 07:35 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Just saw ENT
ENT just came by. Looks about 15, with an iPod on his belt. He goes first when the surgery starts.Posted by Lee Clontz at 07:17 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Just saw anesthesiologist
Brody's anesthesiologist just came by and briefed us. All's ready and waiting for surgeon. Melissa and Brody are pacing, trying to keep him from getting bored and fussy.Posted by Lee Clontz at 07:07 AM | TrackBack
Vitals taken
We've been admitted and the nurse took Brody's vitals. He didn't like the sensor on his toe much, but it was only for a minute. Now we wait for the surgeon to come by.Posted by Lee Clontz at 07:04 AM | Comments (0)
And we're off...
Just arrived at the hospital. Beautiful crescent moon this a.m. We're all checked in and waiting.

Riley's "Planet Song"
We made up "The Planet Song" to help Riley learn his planets (and former planet Pluto). I finally got a video of him singing it tonight. It's mighty cute.
In case it's not obvious, here are the lyrics:
There's Mercury and Venus.
There's Earth and Mars.
There's Jupiter and Saturn.
Now you're out really far.
There's Uranus and Neptune,
But before we go
There' s a cold, little planetoid called Pluto
Bob Dylan I'm not, but back off -- the kid knows his planets.

It's (going to be) a boy!
Most of you probably know this by now, but if we haven't told you directly, all apologies. Baby boy No. 2, name TBD, is due to arrive in the Clontz household on or about April 27th. Mom is doing very well, though she says she's more tired this time. Ry's in denial -- he just says "no" matter-of-factly every time we mention it -- but I hear that's normal.

Riley's 2005 Christmas Picture
For those who haven't gotten the card yet, here's Ry's Christmas picture for this year. Totally lucky shot -- we put him in his holiday togs and tried putting him in the wagon, but the sun was too bright. He ended up running into the Japanese maple tree in the yard and I climbed in the branches and started snapping.Posted by Lee Clontz at 02:57 PM | Comments (0)

Riley's First Movie
Ry had a forced sick day yesterday because his day care requires him to be out for 24 hours after he's had a fever. He came home Wednesday with a little fever bug, but he was fine on Thursday, so we were stuck looking for something to do. I thought he might want to go to the Fernbank Museum of Natural History to see the dinosaur fossils, and decided to try him out in the IMAX theater. There was a showing of "The Living Sea" at 11 a.m., so we got a ticket to his first movie.
We had a really good time and he seemed to like most of the movie (up until the end where there were more people onscreen). He dug the fish, the boats and the airplanes big time.

New Pics of Ry
Riley's turning into a little boy faster and faster. He's doing great in his new class at school, and can say lots of different words. He keeps us hopping, but we're having a great time. We're going to New Jersey to see one set of grandparents (and aunt, uncle and cousins) next week and we'll be in South Carolina to visit with Grandma, two great grandmas, great aunt, great uncle and two aunts. Should be a busy couple of weeks, but it'll be great to share him with the family.
Here's a link to some pictures:

New Videos
Shot some video last week of Riley playing basketball, reading in the tub and reading "Green Eggs and Ham" after his bath (this is the g-rated version).
